Dizzy Flores (Starship Troopers)

Fire Station (Waterloo)

Dizzy FloresSince we successfully put paid to the arachnid threat, life's been a little too quiet for me.

Don't get me wrong; if I never saw Klendathu again it would be too soon. But, I have to admit, hanging round the Fire Station at Waterloo every night would not be my choice of a happily ever-after-story. At least, not without my beloved Johnny Rico.

Do you want to know more?

There's no way any of us could have gone back to Argentina of course. Those clever bugs saw to that, wiping out Buenos Aires and a good deal of the rest of South America too. But I can't help pining for a bit more action than pints in London with be-suited morons waiting to catch a McDonalds and a train ride home to a long-suffering missus.

Maybe this is my mid-life version of administrative punishment!

Mind you, The Fire Station is certainly a nostalgia trip for me; plenty of bugs in here. In fact, the place is absolutely teeming with the bleeders.

Sometimes, just for old time's sake, I take to stalking them, weaving in and out of the tables then stomping them into oblivion. Some of the punters think I'm a head-case, but the regulars know me well enough to let my hob-nail boots do their worst.

Not that they know the full story; I'm a deceased inter-galactic war hero of course; but, to them I'm just that alcoholic ginger witch, who goes a bit loopy now and then dancing on the floors, swatting the walls with her copy of London Lite.

What of the others? Well, to be honest I don't know what happened to them. I got to have Johnny Rico once, but after that, he just didn't want to know. The pig. Looking at it objectively, I guess you can't blame him, what with that bug slicing me in two and all that (Why didn't we have better guns?).

All the same, I can't help feeling that my death was all a bit too convenient for old lover-boy. As soon as I'd copped it, he was off like a nuke, no doubt pursuing that twisty-mouthed hag Carmen. As far as I know he's still pining for that old bike in a starship. (oooh it 'bugs' me so much)

Well, at least I've got my memories. And at least the earth is safe again, thanks in no small part to me. Wait a minute, that's interesting; what's going on outside?

Gosh, the sky sure is getting dark ……..

Fire Station your say? Well yes, it is certainly only to be used in cases of emergency.

Insects? pah. You seen the size of those sandworms in that film I was hopeless in? it was enough to make me write another appalling dirge with my lute.
